The 15 credit home studies (Reading and Responses I & II, Infant Challenges I & II and Maternal Challenges I & II) require you to research common conditions encountered in caring for breastfeeding mothers and babies. You will use your own lactation textbooks, journal articles, and research the internet to provide answers which will be anywhere from short statements to long paragraphs. LEC does not provide the research material. Be prepared to spend between 15-30 hours completing each home study and to allow at least 4 weeks for it to be reviewed and processed. For Reading & Responses I & II it is recommended that you use a current lactation textbook to answer the questions such as Counseling the Nursing Mother by Lauwers & Swisher, 7th Edition (2021) or Breastfeeding and Human Lactation by Wambach & Spencer, 6th Edition, Jones & Bartlett Pub, 2021.
Research and Responses (10 CERPs/CEUs) has four conditions – two maternal and two infant that you will research and respond to questions.
Ethics (5 CERPs/CEUs) – You will be doing some reading and then looking at the IBLCE Code of Professional Conduct in depth.
